Latuda has a boxed warning for the risk of death in older adults with psychosis related to dementia. A boxed warning is the most serious warning from the Food and Drug Administration .

Latuda shouldnt be used to treat psychosis related to dementia in older adults. Psychosis is a mental health condition that can cause delusions and hallucinations. And dementia is a condition that affects communication, thinking, and memory.

Antipsychotic drugs such as Latuda can raise the risk of death and stroke when used to treat psychosis related to dementia in older people.

Symptoms of stroke can include:

headache
facial, arm, or leg weakness on one side of your body
trouble walking, speaking, or seeing

What might help

If you have symptoms of stroke while taking Latuda, tell your doctor right away.

But you shouldnt take Latuda if youre an older adult with psychosis related to dementia. Talk with your doctor about other treatment options that may be a better fit for you.

Pregnancy And Breastfeeding While Taking Latuda

It isnt known if Latuda is safe to use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.

Studies of Latuda havent looked at its use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. It isnt known if the drug can pass into breast milk. But according to a National Pregnancy Registry that monitors pregnancy outcomes, withdrawal symptoms and movement disorders have occurred in infants born to mothers who took Latuda during the last 3 months of pregnancy.

Symptoms of withdrawal and movement disorders in infants can include:

feeling bothered or restless
trouble breathing
uncontrollable movement of an arm or leg

If youre pregnant or breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant or to breastfeed, talk with your doctor before using Latuda.

In either instance, interactions like these can undermine the effectiveness of antiretroviral therapy and lead to a multitude of concerns, including:

Avoid drinking alcohol. Dangerous side effects could occur.

Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how this medicine will affect you. Avoid getting up too fast from a sitting or lying position, or you may feel dizzy. Dizziness or drowsiness can cause falls, accidents, or severe injuries.

Grapefruit and grapefruit juice may interact with lurasidone and lead to unwanted side effects. Avoid the use of grapefruit products while taking lurasidone.

Can I Take Latuda If Im Pregnant Or Breastfeeding

Taking antipsychotic medicine in the last 3 months of pregnancy may cause breathing problems, feeding problems, or withdrawal symptoms in the newborn. If you get pregnant, tell your doctor right away. Do not stop taking lurasidone without your doctor’s advice.

If you are pregnant, your name may be listed on a pregnancy registry to track the effects of lurasidone on the baby.

It may not be safe to breastfeed a baby while you are using this medicine. Ask your doctor about any risks.

Is It Ok To Take All Your Medications At Once

It’s important to take your medication as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. If two meds interact, spacing them apart during the day may not stop them from interacting and could lead to new or worse problems. How Do Drug Interactions Happen

As we covered last month, disrupted circadian rhythms are one of the leading causes of bipolar, and blue-light blocking glasses which increase the brains own melatonin are effective in mania, and melatonin works in circadian rhythm disorders like jet lag. But in its debut randomized controlled trial in bipolar disorder, oral melatonin falls flat.

The small 3-week study involved 41 patients with bipolar in a manic or hypomanic state. Compared to placebo, melatonin made no difference on the primary outcome measure of manic symptoms and did not even help sleep. On secondary outcomes which were mainly different ways of data fishing among the bipolar rating scales there was a suggestion of improvement in the melatonin group, but these would not be considered statistically significant since they were secondary measures.

Does The Form Of Cbd Matter

Absolutely. Inhaled CBD gets into the blood the fastest, reaching high concentration within 30 minutes and increasing the risk of acute side effects. What Other Medications Can Impact How Prozac Works In The Body

You should never take Prozac if it has been less than six weeks since you took an MAOI medication. The same is true if you have taken another type of antidepressant, a prescription painkiller or a migraine medication like Imitrex.

Hair loss is a possible side effect of other mood stabilizers used to treat bipolar disorder. When used for bipolar depression in adults, Latuda may be prescribed along with the mood stabilizers lithium or valproate. And hair loss is a common side effect of these drugs.

So if you use Latuda with lithium or valproate, you may notice hair loss. But its likely that this side effect is caused by lithium or valproate, not Latuda.
