What Happens To My Body When Having Trt

What Is Testosterone Replacement Therapy? What is TRT?

The first thing you should notice is an increase in your sex drive. This happens within three weeks and reaches its full potential within six weeks.

Next, your mood should improve. You may see a reduction in the symptoms of depression after three or four weeks.

Finally, your fat and muscle levels should start heading in opposite directions after three or four months. You should see a difference regardless, but it will be especially pronounced if you hit the gym hard.

There are other benefits you may not notice, like an increase in bone density, reduction in inflammation, and improved insulin sensitivity. These can take anywhere from three weeks to a year to take effect.

Indications And Other Uses

TRT in males with low concentrations of testosterone is controversial because this condition is often a normal sign of aging; testosterone concentrations in men naturally begin to decline at age 40 years, at an average of 1% to 2% per year.5 Clinical hypogonadism, however, is an approved indication for TRT and is the only FDA-approved indication for TRT in men. The American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists defines male hypogonadism as a decrease in testicular function accompanied by signs or symptoms.6 In women, additional FDA-approved indications include vasomotor symptoms of menopause and breast cancer. Despite having only the abovementioned FDA-approved indications, TRT is often recommended by prescribersbased on a presumption of low testosteronefor sexual function, bone density, body composition, muscle strength, mood, behavior, and cognition. Two areas of use that are beyond the scope of this article are TRT in sportsan ongoing controversyand in female-to-male transgender patients.

Addressing Vitamin & Mineral Deficiencies

A number of people have low testosterone in part due to deficiencies in vitamins & minerals.

When your body is healthy, your testosterone production is naturally a lot healthier.

There are specific vitamins & minerals that aid testosterone production more than others, so Ill name the main ones you need to focus on.

  • D3
  • A
  • Selenium

Deficiency in D3, Zinc & magnesium tend to be most common. D3 mainly comes from sunlight so you may need to consider supplementation.

Zinc & magnesium you should be able to get enough or close to enough with your diet & you may want to consider supplementing to top up levels.

Continuous Testosterone Hcg And Anastrozole Testosterone Replacement Therapy:

Continuous Testosterone, HCG and Anastrozole Testosterone Replacement Therapy is a unique Mens Medical Health Clinic developed treatment protocol. It consists of the continuous administration of testosterone, HCG and Anastrozole medications throughout the period of hormone replacement therapy combined with periodic lab testing to assure that the patient is prescribed the correct dose rate for each medication to achieve optimum treatment results.

The primary advantage of this method is that continual administration of HCG causes a portion of the patients increased daily testosterone level to be naturally produced by the testes. As in the cycled method below, the continuous method prevents the loss of natural testosterone production and testicular atrophy from resulting from a treatment consisting of testosterone and Anastrozole only. The testosterone medication enables the patient to achieve an optimum testosterone level within the normal range for men. And the Anastrozole tablets block the aromatase conversion of testosterone to estrogens.

Testosterone, HCG and Anastrozole are administered continuously throughout period of testosterone replacement therapy. Continuous administration of HCG stimulates an increase in daily natural production of testosterone by the testes.

Different Protocols Have Different Looking Outcomes

Indeed, different protocols WILL have very different outcomes. We can immediately visualise this with predictive graphs derived from pharmacokinetic models. As a little preface, these graphs are computationally made by The Mens Health Clinic, created using Python 3.8, some modules, some pharmacokinetics and a lot of maths. The real outcomes from different protocols can vary greatly based on individual multifactorial differences, and we can only account for so much. However, these predictive model graphs serve as good starting points, and give us a very good insight into how different protocols may on average look in real life.

We have broken this down into the different protocols by sector, including the NHS. So, without further ado, let us start with the NHS.

Alternative Ways To Increase Testosterone

There are many testosterone supplements available to buy over the counter that purport to increase a persons testosterone. However, there is typically little evidence to demonstrate their effectiveness.

Lifestyle changes, such as exercise, improving diet, and reducing excess weight may have a more significant impact than taking these supplements.

These choices should occur after a discussion with a doctor, so that the best approach is made for the individual in view of their personal medical history.

Why Does Testosterone Decrease

As you get older, your body begins to produce less testosterone. This is completely normal, as the male bodys testosterone production levels reduce about 1 to 2 percent every year. This process usually begins around your early 30s or late 20s.

While most men experience a gradual decrease in testosterone levels, rapid reduction in the production of testosterone in the body could lead to a decreased sex drive, increased insomnia, erectile dysfunction, reduced sperm production in the body, fewer spontaneous erections, rapid loss of muscle, obvious weight gain, loss of bone density, and so on.

The best way to know if you have low testosterone levels is by seeing a healthcare professional, and taking a testosterone level test. It is a simple blood test that helps determine the testosterone levels in your body. Most medical providers require that you take this test before prescribing testosterone replacement therapy.

You may also need to do the testosterone level test multiple times, as different factors such as diet or fitness, could potentially affect the level of testosterone production in your body.

Natural Testosterone Hcg Therapy With Anastrozole To Increase Both Natural Testosterone Production And Increase Male Fertility If Low Lh And Low Natural Testosterone Production Are The Only Cause Of The Infertility

Natural Testosterone HCG Therapy to Increase Natural Testosterone Production and Male Fertility is a unique Mens Medical Health Clinic developed treatment protocol that utilizes HCG to stimulate the testes to increase a mans natural production of testosterone and fertility. Fertility is increased if LH produced and secreted by the pituitary gland is insufficient in the testes to render the male patient fertile.

This is conditional upon there being sufficient FSH present in the blood and there is no other cause of the male infertility. The treatment objective is to cause the male testes to naturally produce a higher volume of natural testosterone by HCG stimulation of the testes with the result that the patients fertility is increased.

As stated above, no testosterone medication is administered in this treatment as the patients endocrine system, i.e. the HPTA in response to the increased testosterone caused by testosterone medication.

This decline in LH secretions would reduce LH stimulates the testes to produce natural testosterone and fertility. It is naturally produced testosterone by the testes that is essential to increasing sperm count. Anastrozole is administered throughout the treatment period to block the aromatase conversion of the increased testosterone to estrogens. Spermatogenesis is the human process by which male primordial germ cells called spermatogonia undergo meiosis and produce a number of cells referred to as spermatozoa.

What Does The Treatment Process Typically Look Like

What Is Hypogonadism & The Different Types

Now to clarify, when your body doesnt produce enough testosterone, this is known as hypogonadism.

Im going to simplify this; but there are two main types of hypogonadism, known as primary & secondary.

Primary is where the testicles simply dont produce enough testosterone. If this is what you are suffering from, you definitively need to go on TRT.

The alternatives to testosterone replacement therapy; Im suggesting arent going to help to any extent.

You will be able to use them to compliment TRT & make it more effective; but you wont be able to restore your production naturally.

If you need a clinic recommendation or some help establishing if you have primary hypogonadism, this is something I can assist with.

Secondary hypogonadism is slightly different, this is where there the testicles work correctly & the issue is with the pituitary or hypothalamus.

This can be caused by a number of different issues, such as nutritional deficiencies, inflammation, obesity, medications etc.

If you have hypogonadism or low testosterone due to the above, that is where these alternatives to testosterone replacement therapy can be very effective.

Again there may be some cases of secondary hypogonadism where you do need to consider TRT & use these methods as a way to supplement it.

Now I appreciate that not everyone is ready to take the plunge with TRT.

You may be looking to establish if you can improve levels without going the TRT route.

The Magical World Of Low Testosterone

The importance of testosterone to male health has been understood since at least the 1930s. A steroid hormone produced in the testicles, T encourages the expression of male sexual characteristics like big muscles, body hair, an Adams apple, and a deep voice. It also boosts self-confidence, focus, motivation, aggression, andperhaps most important to many men who dont have enough of itlibido and the ability to get an erection.

As males, most of us reach peak T by age 20, after which our levels tend to remain steady. After age 30, however, testosterone begins to decline by up to 1% per year. Scientists dont know why, but as we grow older, T begins to recede like an outgoing tide. And as it falls, men experience a cascade of negative effects: depression, hot flashes and sweats, exhaustion, forgetfulness. Declining T also means declining muscle mass and bone density, and, of course, trouble getting it up.

Which is why, more and more in this day and age, the push for, and ready availability of, testosterone-replacement therapy, or TRT, has become an issue.

Testosterone Replacement Therapy ( TRT ) for Best Men

Testosterone shots arent for everyone. Some people cant tolerate injecting themselves, and some cant stand needles, period. Others struggle to keep up with their at-home injection schedule or find frequent office visits to be inconvenient or inaccessible. What Results Can You Expect From Testosterone Replacement Therapy

Over time, TRT restores; your bodys testosterone levels and most men will begin to experience some symptom relief in as little as one month. Symptoms will continue to improve over time with the proper course of treatment.

For many men, the results of testosterone replacement therapy can be truly life-changing:

  • Increased energy and stamina
  • Vast improvement of erectile dysfunction
  • Increased muscle mass and overall bone density
  • Better moods and diminished feelings of depression

What Is Testosterone Replacement Therapy

TRT is a method of returning testosterone within the body to normal, healthy levels. As men age, the level of testosterone in the bloodstream typically declines 0.4-2.6% per year. Almost one-quarter of men over 30 suffer from low T. The result is hypogonadal levels in millions of men. Besides aging, other causes of low T include obesity, alcoholism, and stress.

Symptoms of low T include:

  • Erectile dysfunction and/or reduced sex drive

If you experience these symptoms, you may want to;have your testosterone levels tested.

In many cases, TRT can help you get back to feeling like yourself again. The goal of TRT is to supplement the bodys waning testosterone levels, easing or eliminating the related symptoms. TRT has been;shown to improve sex drive, restore erectile function, improve mood, and increase bone density and muscle mass.

Why Does T Decrease With Age

Your body naturally produces less T as you age. According to an article in American Family Physician, the average males T production goes down by about 1 to 2 percent each year.

This is all part of a completely natural process that starts in your late 20s or early 30s:

  • As you age, your testicles produce less T.
  • Lowered GnRH causes your pituitary gland to makes less luteinizing hormone .
  • Lowered LH results in lowered overall T production.
  • This gradual decrease in T often doesnt cause any noticeable symptoms. But a significant drop in T levels may cause:

    • low sex drive

TRT is traditionally used to treat hypogonadism, which occurs when your testes dont produce enough testosterone.

There are two types of hypogonadism:

    • Primary hypogonadism. Low T results from issues with your gonads. Theyre getting signals from your brain to make T but cant produce them.
    • Central hypogonadism. Low T results from issues in your hypothalamus or pituitary gland.

TRT works to make up for T that isnt being produced by your testes.

If you have true hypogonadism, TRT can:

    • improve your sexual function
    • boost your sperm count and volume
    • increase levels of other hormones that interact with T, including prolactin

TRT can also help to balance unusual T levels caused by:

Many countries, including the United States, dont allow people to legally purchase T supplements for TRT without a prescription.

Still, people seek out TRT for a range of non-medical reasons, such as:

Best Practices for Administrating Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT)

    Testosterone levels begin to drop in men beginning at age 30. If you think you may be suffering from low T levels or if youve already been given a diagnosis, Testosterone Replacement Therapy ; may be beneficial and help you regain your confidence by restoring your levels back to what they once were.;

Low T is much more common as you age, but theres good news: advances in modern medicine have helped doctors discover new treatment options and hormone balancing therapy can slow the rate at which your hormones decline, allowing you to experience a better quality of life.

Ashley S. Brown, PharmD, BCPS, BCPPPharmacy Clinical Specialist

    US Pharm. 2019;44:17-23.

ABSTRACT: In recent years, testosterone replacement therapy has received significant media attention, and the rate of testosterone use has increased notably. A reported association between testosterone use and increased occurrence of myocardial infarction and stroke prompted the FDA to issue a safety bulletin in 2014. Clinical hypogonadism is the only FDA-approved indication for TRT in men; it is not approved to treat age-related low testosterone. Although it is not indicated, TRT is often recommended to improve sexual function, bone density, body composition, muscle strength, mood, behavior, and cognition. The literature on the effectiveness of TRT for various conditions is largely mixed; therefore, current data on appropriate and potentially inappropriate use are important for pharmacists to keep abreast of and discuss with patients.

There Are Many Types Of Testosterone

Theres testosterone for men and estrogen for women and those are the two big hormones, right?

    Not quite.

Dr. Yafi explains that there are actually three kinds of testosterone. First, theres free testosterone, which is readily available for cells to use. The other two types of testosterone are attached to proteins in the blood called albumin and sex hormone-binding globulin , respectively. In addition to free testosterone, albumin-bound testosterone is also available for the body to use; these two types of testosterone are known as bioavailable testosterone.

The third typethe testosterone attached to SHBG proteinsis not available for use. Dr. Yafi says that SHBG increases as men get older, and so, too, does their SHBG-attached testosterone.

All of which is to say, according to Dr. Yafi, is that age-related testosterone decline doesnt necessarily reflect a mans total testosterone levels. You might only be losing a portion of your free testosterone. A blood test can help determine whether certain symptoms are actually caused by low testosterone.
