What Is Genitourinary Syndrome Of Menopause

Information on Estrogen Cream

According to a 2014 article published in the journal Maturitas:

“GSM is defined as a collection of symptoms and signs associated with a decrease in estrogen and other sex steroids involving changes to the labia majora/minora, clitoris, vestibule/introitus, vagina, urethra, and bladder. The syndrome may include but is not limited to genital symptoms of dryness, burning, and irritation; sexual symptoms of lack of lubrication, discomfort or pain, and impaired function; and urinary symptoms of urgency, dysuria and recurrent urinary tract infections.”

Of note, according to the authors of this study, in order for you to be diagnosed as having GSM, your symptoms must be bothersome and unattributable to another etiology or cause. Moreover, many women with GSM may experience some but not all of these symptoms.

Estrogen Cream For Vaginal Dryness

The myth that the normal process of aging causes profound physical loss or disability has fueled ageism for eons; a healthy older person has no problem seeing, hearing or thinking. Moreover, many healthy older people still have vigorous libidos and sex lives.

In an estimated 50 percent of women, hormonal changes attributable to menopause can lead to vaginal dryness and other symptoms of genitourinary syndrome of menopause . Despite the availability and efficacy of local vaginal estrogen therapy , only about 60 percent of those experiencing GSM seekor are providedmedical help and guidance. Many women wait a year or more to consult a healthcare provider but the majority will use over-the-counter lubricating gels and creams to alleviate GSM. In other words, a breakdown in the system attributable to both providers and patients keeps several million older women suffering from GSMa condition that is readily treated with estrogen creams and other low-dose vaginal estrogen products.

Absorbability And Longer Lasting:

Hormones are all fat-soluble because they are derived from cholesterol. ;The inner thigh has a good amount of fat tissue, and it has soft, thin skin compared to other areas of your body. ;This makes it absorb more easily into the skin. Also, because it has a nice fat pad, the release of the hormone will last longer. ;;For example, the inner part of your forearm has thin skin but very little fat. So it will be absorbed quickly, but because of the lack of fat, it will not last long. ;

How To Curb Estrogen Dominance And Progesterone Deficiency

There are self-help ways to help with estrogen dominance and progesterone deficiency.

For estrogen dominance, non-pharmacological or physiological approaches are important since lifestyle modifications can help menopausal females to lower estrogen levels, naturally and without side effects.

For improving progesterone level progesterone creams are the most popular natural option for reducing the symptoms of progesterone deficiency and estrogen dominance. B6 and limiting dairy in your diet can be helpful as well. For some, dairy can raise prolactin which in turn suppresses ovulation and progesterone.

HRT is also a current trend of help in estrogen dominance and progesterone deficiency but comes with a number of side effects. BHRT is the recommended natural approach by alternative therapy practitioners.

The Use Of Vaginal Estrogen By Women With A Current Or Prior History Of Breast Cancer

Phyto Estrogen Cream

Data do not show an increased risk of cancer recurrence among women currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer or those with a personal history of breast cancer who use vaginal estrogen to relieve urogenital symptoms 16. A nested casecontrol analysis of a cohort study of women with breast cancer who either did or did not use vaginal estrogen showed no increase of recurrence in vaginal estrogen users 17. In another study, the risk of recurrence in women who used vaginal cream was not increased, irrespective of the total dose prescribed 18.

Concerns remain about recurrence risk with use of vaginal estrogen in women with breast cancer who use aromatase inhibitors. Specifically, the threshold for systemic estrogen levels associated with breast cancer recurrence risk has yet to be determined 19. Some authors note that even a small increase in systemic estradiol levels may have a detrimental effect on recurrence risk and that more data are needed before recommendations can be made regarding the use of vaginal estrogen among this population 1620. Typically, aromatase inhibitors decrease circulating estradiol levels from 20 pg/mL to less than 13 pg/mL 2021. Studies have demonstrated an initial increase of serum estradiol with the use of low-dose vaginal estrogen among women taking an aromatase inhibitor, though these levels were not sustained over time and increased cancer recurrence was not noted 11.

Natural Estrogen Replacement: The Great Debate

Because bioidentical estrogen is in the same form as the estrogen in our bodies, some argue that our bodies recognize it easier and therefore it gives us less chance of unwanted side effects.

They contend that bioidentical hormones are clearly superior over synthetic hormones, while others say that there is not enough evidence to prove this.

I recommend talking to your doctor and looking into natural estrogens found in herbal supplements.

Years of women using these herbs with positive experiences along with the low possibility of side effects is a great reason to take natural estrogen supplements.

Your Doctor May Balance The Scales With Progestin

Is estrogen cream effective to enhance breast in transgenders? – Dr. Surindher D S A

When women who have not had a hysterectomy take supplemental estrogen, they also take a progestin to lower their risk for endometrial cancer. At the moment, it appears that women who use vaginal estrogen cream for a short period of time do not need supplemental progestin. If you are using the product for a long period of time your physician may decide that you need supplemental progestin.

Where To Apply Bhrt Cream

Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy is very popular and useful for so many people. ;We often prescribe BHRT for the following conditions:

  • Menopausal symptoms
  • Acne
  • Osteoporosis/osteopenia

This list is not a comprehensive list but gives you an idea of what BHRT can be used for.;Bioidentical hormone applications come in many forms, with transdermal creams being the most common. ;There is a lot of conflicting information on where to apply hormone creams. We recommend to all of our patients to apply hormone cream to the inner thigh.;

Whether you are using progesterone cream, estradiol, estriol, biest, testosterone, or DHEA creams, the inner thigh is typically the best place to apply the cream. Whether you are male or female, the inner thigh is the proper location to apply your cream. You can also apply BHRT cream to the back of the knee, which I will further explain. ;;

Choosing The Best Type Of Estrogen Therapy

When deciding what type of estrogen therapy to get, work closely with your doctor. While oral estrogen has been around for a long time and is well studied, some modes of taking hormone therapy are not. They may have lower risks or different risks that we don’t know about yet. Your doctor should be up to date on the latest research.

Right now, the full risks of hormone therapy are unclear. So if you do decide to get ERT, experts generally recommend that you get it at the lowest dose for the shortest time possible. Talk to your doctor about how long you should expect to take ERT and how you can limit your risks.
