In The Crosshairs Of The Fda

Dr. Sobel and his committee decided that this particular drug estrogen or testosterone pellet which had benefited from a Grandfather Clause for nearly 50 years needed to go through a New Drug Application process, as required by law, like every new drug. None of the previous publications were satisfying the new investigative rules which required bona fide efforts involving double-blind placebo-controlled trials. It was added that investigators who wish to pursue bona fide studies should contact the Division of Metabolism and Endocrine Drug Products for assistance in the protocol design and analysis of data so that the studies will provide the appropriate data. It was hoped that such studies could yield the kind of data upon which drug approval could be based.

What Is Male Menopause

Andropause or male menopause is a condition in aging men that has some similarities to menopause in women. The symptoms of andropause or male menopause develop due to a gradual decline in the levels of testosterone production by the Leydig cells in the testicles whereas during female menopause, the symptoms are caused predominantly by a decreased production of the female hormones estrogen and progesterone.

During andropause, the levels of the female hormone estradiol can increase in men as they age. This increase of estradiol during andropause occurs as a result of enzymatic aromatization of testosterone in the fat cells to estradiol which may have feminizing effects on a man that include the increase in breast tissue called gynecomastia.

Symptoms of andropause have been very rarely addressed by the medical community until recently. A majority of men have been reluctant to acknowledge that they were experiencing “male menopause” and did not want to discuss these symptoms with their medical doctors, male friends, or even their wives. Another factor that has caused andropause to remain unaddressed for so long is the fact that the symptoms of andropause progress very gradually.

Present Status Of Hormone Pellet Treatment

We see every year a new hormonal product being launched on the market and the manufacturing drug company never misses sending their sales representatives to our clinic. All drug sales and prescribers are officially registered in the internet pharmaceutical records. I assume that all pharmaceutical companies have free access to the records because their sales rep generally know what we prescribe and how much. Therefore, it is well known that our clinic is heavily prescribing hormonal medications. The new products may be tablets, patches, gels or vaginal rings with new packaging, new pricing or new ingredients claiming that the product will be more efficient and easier to absorb or digest. Interestingly, nothing can improve what has been available to us for the last 30 years. We still have the same options of marketed generic tablets or patches and compounded creams or suppositories. Above all, there is presently nothing that can surpass the pellets in efficiency, compliance and successful results.

For men: The usual treatment varies between 400 and 800 mg, depending on body size, age, need and metabolism. Its given in the same fashion, but using larger 5 mm diameter trocars that allow us to insert 200 mg pellets. The effects are also directly monitored in the blood allowing us, if necessary, to adjust the dosage. Also, we check the PSA to be sure that we are not dealing with an early prostate cancer.

Alternatives to Estrogen Replacement Therapy

Testosterone is called a male hormone responsible for normal sexual life. We are used to this narrow definition of the hormone but actually, it can be found in females, and it influences many physical conditions. But here, we will focus on the importance of testosterone for mens health. Its produced in their testicles and regulates primary and secondary male characteristics. Without a sufficient testosterone level, a person suffers physically and mentally from erectile dysfunction, low bone density, muscular strength loss, depression, and more. Hormone replacement therapy helps men return to a happy and healthy life.

What Are Hormones And Why Do They Matter

Hormones are signaling molecules that work as messengers in your body: they travel to different body parts and regulate both your physiology and behavior. They influence your growth, development, metabolism, sexual desires, and moods.

When the organism ages and the level of hormones decreases, it regulates the body slower and less effectively. That is why you may experience physical and mental health issues like bones brittleness, body hair loss, weight gain due to worse metabolism, lower sexual drive, mood swings, depression, anxiety. Everything becomes imbalanced.

In order to return to homeostasis, the balance in your body, you can take such hormones as testosterone or estrogen. It is available as tablets, creams or gels, vaginal rings, and skin patches. You should consult with your doctor to get the best advice on how to take it.

Irving-based hormone replacement therapy provider Biote goes public via a blank check company Friday, hoping a cash injection will be a springboard for accelerated growth as it aims for $166 million in revenue this year.

Dallas was a great place to grow up from, said Biote CEO Terry Weber, who moved to North Texas from Orange County, Calif., in 2018 to lead the company. And now weve decided to go mainstream. Thats why were going public.

Haymaker III, the third SPAC from brothers Steven Heyer, formerly president and chief operating officer of the Coca-Cola Co., and Andrew Heyer, founder and CEO of private equity fund manager Mistral Equity Partners, will help usher Biote into its next growth stage.

The SPAC raised $317 million in its March initial public offering. On Tuesday, stockholders approved the combination, with the newly formed company trading on Nasdaq under the ticker symbol BTMD. Biote said its implied initial equity value is about $737 million.

The 10-year-old company has never borrowed money and is turning a profit thanks to its franchise-like, asset-light business model. The medical practice-building business reported revenue of about $140 million in 2021, up about 20% from the previous year.

After the training, Biote provides the practitioners clinic with the pellets and insertion tool, software to track patient treatment and inventory, training for front- and back-office staff and marketing materials.

How Does Hormone Pellet Therapy Work

Hormone pellet therapy works by steadily replacing and rebalancing the missing hormones in the body. Hormone pellet therapy has been used since 1939. There are other types of hormone replacement, including:

Hormone pellet therapy has several advantages over these other methods. These benefits include:

  • It has the same molecular structure as human hormones
  • It lasts longer than other treatments, typically around three to five months
  • It’s the most widely studied form of natural hormone therapy
  • It provides a steady stream of hormones in your blood

The type of hormone therapy we utilize is called the BioTE® method using bio-identical hormone pellet therapy. This type of hormone therapy is meant to be hassle-free: the BioTE® method of hormone pellet therapy provides outstanding results with minimal side effects. Pellet therapy is also the only modality that mimics the body’s normal diurnal and circadian rhythms.

Other benefits of utilizing the BioTE® method of hormone pellet therapy are:

  • It’snot new: Hundreds of studies have been completed on hormone pellet therapy, and it has been in use since 1939.
  • It’s clinically effective: With the BioTE® method using bio-identical hormone pellet therapy, hormones are delivered consistently 24/7 over several months. There is no roller coaster effect as with other treatment types.
  • It’s convenient: Hormone pellets are implanted just a few times each year.

Response From The Fda

The Commissioner Young or his assistants, the Consumer Safety Officers Diane Walker or Hugh Cannon answered the patients, the Senators or the Congressmen with the same generic type of letters. There was very little variation between the different texts. Amazingly, Dr. Solomon Sobel the director of the FDAs division of metabolism and endocrine drug products who had picked a fight with Dr. Greenblatt remained silent. They didnt want to expose to the patients and elected officials the obvious atmosphere of animosity. Here is a summary of their response:

As you may be aware, estradiol pellets were on the market some years ago but were not the subject of approved new drug applications , as required by law. Because of findings on the potential carcinogenicity of estrogens, particularly as a consequence of long-term use, the firms marketing these products were notified that they must either obtain approved NDA s for their product or cease marketing them.

Further, the FDA presented the issue of the use of this product in uncontrolled studies for which inadequate data existed for approval before the Fertility and Maternal Health Drugs Advisory Committee. The Committee Recommendation was that uncontrolled studies should cease. FDA has concurred with that recommendation.

Carolyn Matthews was not satisfied with Ms. Walkers answer and she responded with another letter.

About Hormone Replacement Therapy

Episode #33 – James LaValle & Dr. Doreen Saltiel – Stress & Sex Hormone Health

Hormone therapy replenishes the hormones our body needs to function properly. In our practice, we are taking a natural approach to hormone balance with Bio-identical Hormone Replacement Therapy . Dr. Paul Thaxton is highly-trained in natural Bio-identical Hormone Therapy integrated with nutrition and fitness for those suffering from hormone imbalance.

Countless studies have shown that traditional hormone therapy can increase the likelihood of various types of cancer and heart disease. Traditional Hormone Replacement Therapy involves synthetic hormones that are most often prescribed once a patients hormone levels have dropped low enough to create symptoms. This treatment option has come under intense scrutiny. In fact, the safety of hormone replacement therapy has been questioned for several years now.

For decades, women were told that HRT — usually a combination of estrogen and progestin — was good for them during and after menopause. Then the 2002 results of the Women’s Health Initiative study seemed to show just the opposite: hormone replacement therapy was linked to life-threatening risks such as heart attacks, strokes, blood clots and cancer. Despite the potential dangers, some doctors still prescribe traditional, synthetic hormones.

How Does Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy Work

The team uses BioTe pellets to restore balance to your hormones. They implant these pellets beneath your skin, typically near the hip. Over the next three to six months, your pellet therapy will gradually release estrogen, testosterone, or a combination of these hormones, to correct your hormone imbalance.

After your first cycle, the team can determine whether you need any changes to your treatment plan. Because the team custom compounds these hormones for your unique physiology, they can adjust your hormone dosages at any time.

If you think bioidentical hormone therapy is right for you, call Calvin L. Hobbs, MD, PC or book an appointment online today.

So How Can I Know If My Hormones Are Imbalanced

The symptoms of hormone deficiencies affect three areas: mental health, physical health, and sexual health. Typical symptoms include fatigue, libido loss, lack of enthusiasm, and sexual dysfunction. Are you feeling tired, apathetic, and weak? Perhaps your sex drive is fading. You might also be losing muscle tone. Although hormone deficiencies can affect people in a variety of ways, these are just some of the symptoms that a deficiency can cause.
